چکیده

Fabrication of Non-Uniform Nanolattices In article number 2100690, I-Te Chen, Chih-Hao Chang, and co-workers demonstrate non-uniform nanolattices fabricated by stacking 3D nanostructure layers with independently controlled lattice geometry composition. This process can be used to engineer materials tailored properties was construct a gradient-index (GRIN) antireflection nanolattice film. The proposed approach find applications in nanophotonics, graded filters, energy storage systems, nanoarchitected films.

Intrinsic3D: High-Quality 3D Reconstruction by Joint Appearance and Geometry Optimization with Spatially-Varying Lighting Supplementary Material

In this document, we provide additional experiments and details. Specifically, we give an overview of the mathematical symbols in Sec. 1, and in Sec. 2 we provide a thorough quantitative evaluation regarding the geometric reconstruction quality on ground truth data (both real and synthetic). We further show qualitative results of the reconstructed models on several own and publicly-available da...

Measuring Spatially- and Directionally-varying Light Scattering from Biological Material

Light interacts with an organism's integument on a variety of spatial scales. For example in an iridescent bird: nano-scale structures produce color; the milli-scale structure of barbs and barbules largely determines the directional pattern of reflected light; and through the macro-scale spatial structure of overlapping, curved feathers, these directional effects create the visual texture. Mill...

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).

By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

The geometry of percolation fronts in two- dimensional lattices with spatially varying densities

Percolation theory is usually applied to lattices with a uniform probability p that a site is occupied or that a bond is closed. The more general case, where p is a function of the position x , has received less attention. Previous studies with long-range spatial variations in p(x) have only investigated cases where p has a finite, non-zero gradient at the critical point pc. Here we extend the ...

Creation of new lasing modes with spatially nonuniform gain.

We report on the creation of new lasing modes with spatially nonuniform profiles of optical gain in a one-dimensional random structure. It is demonstrated numerically that even without gain saturation and mode competition, the spatial nonuniformity of gain can cause dramatic and complicated changes. New lasing modes appear with frequencies between those of the lasing modes with uniform gain. We...
